Episode 36: the Isolation Episode

From my anosmic isolation chamber as I’ve got the ‘rona! I talk about how many of the things software engineers think they should or shouldn’t be doing probably don’t have any impact on the success or failure of the software they’re making.

I don’t explicitly mention anything that should be in show notes, but a couple of resources relevant to setting goals for businesses and measuring progress would be beneficial, non? Here are two: Measure What Matters by John Doerr is the book on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), introduced by Andy Grove at Intel and adopted by Alphabet/Google among others. The Four Disciplines from FranklinCovey are how you ensure that the thing you think you ought to be changing, and the thing you can and are changing, are connected.
